This came out in early 2020, when another virus was on top of our minds. However the album art is a bacteriophage not a coronavirus so there's nothing to do with them there.
Now. Prog metal. Known for fifteen minute songs full of twiddly showing off that often makes it hard to follow what is going on. Or, alternatively, it is over the top and ridiculous like Wilderun (but they are so in a good way). This album doesn't suffer from that at all. It's like... well Meshuggah, perhaps, or early Opeth; very interesting tunes that don't insist upon themselves too much. Instead you have a very enjoyable album that blasts from start to finish. Nice clean vocals combine with heavy (perhaps over compressed in the production) instrumentation to make something you can listen to again and again.
I wouldn't say it is the best album of all time but it is very good. No filler tracks and nothing below 8/10. I like the aesthetics of the album cover as well, a knowingly self-referential homage to the prog band logos of yore without whom we wouldn't be listening to this album. Very good.
